The shocking crime has once again raised concerns over rising domestic disputes turning into heinous crimes.
According to police reports, the victim has been identified as 32-year-old Gauri Anil Sambekar, while the accused is her husband, 36-year-old Rakesh Rajendra Khedkar. The couple, originally from Maharashtra, had shifted to Bengaluru a year ago. Sources say the husband, who worked for a private firm from home, frequently engaged in arguments with his wife.
The murder took place on the night of March 26, police suspect. Rakesh allegedly stabbed his wife in the neck and stomach before folding her body and stuffing it into a trolley bag. The chilling crime came to light when the house owner noticed something suspicious and alerted the police control room. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of Gauri inside the suitcase.
The police were further informed that after committing the crime, Rakesh had called the victim’s parents, possibly in an attempt to justify or confess his actions. The distraught parents immediately contacted the Maharashtra police, who then coordinated with the Karnataka police to intervene. However, by the time authorities reached the scene, the accused had fled and is currently on the run. A manhunt has been launched to track him down.
Frequent Disputes and Suspicions
Investigations have revealed that the couple’s relationship was troubled, with neighbors and the landlord testifying about their frequent fights. The victim, a graduate in mass media, reportedly endured conflicts with her husband for a long time. However, the extent of their discord was unknown to the outside world until the shocking murder surfaced.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) confirmed the incident, stating, “The victim’s parents have approached us. We have launched an investigation and are working on tracing the accused.” The police are analyzing call records and CCTV footage to track Rakesh’s movements after the crime.
Disturbing Trend of Murders
This shocking crime is the latest in a series of gruesome murders that have gripped the country, raising concerns over rising domestic violence cases. It comes just months after the horrifying case of Mahalakshmi, a single working woman in Bengaluru who was murdered by her lover on September 3. In that case, the accused chopped her body into over 50 pieces and stored them in a refrigerator, reminiscent of the infamous Shraddha Walker case in Delhi.
The frequency of such crimes has led to growing public fear about personal safety, even within one’s own home. Experts believe that unresolved disputes, psychological stress, and the inability to seek professional intervention contribute to the rising number of domestic violence cases.
As police continue their search for Rakesh, authorities are urging people to report domestic violence cases early, before they escalate into tragic incidents. Meanwhile, the public remains shocked by yet another spine-chilling case that highlights the dark side of strained relationships.
