It was a quiet Monday night in the Balaha Ali Gardanpur locality of Siwan district, Bihar — until the silence was shattered by an unthinkable tragedy.
Awadhesh Chaudhary, a resident of the area and reportedly suffering from mental instability, had a heated argument with his family. What started as a quarrel quickly spiraled into horror. In a sudden fit of rage, Awadhesh grabbed an axe and turned it on his own family.
With chilling brutality, he attacked his wife and children. His eldest daughter, 18-year-old Jyoti Kumari, and three sons, Abhishek Kumar (14), Bhola Kumar (12), and Mukesh Kumar (10) — were killed on the spot. Their lives were snuffed out in an instant, leaving behind a scene of unimaginable devastation.
The carnage didn’t stop there. His younger daughter, 14-year-old Anjali Kumari, and his wife, Rita Devi, were also attacked. They survived the onslaught but were left critically injured. Both were rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in a desperate bid to save their lives.
After the bloodshed, perhaps shaken by the gravity of what he had done, Awadhesh reportedly tried to call the district magistrate and the superintendent of police. According to his confession, no one answered.
Authorities arrived at the scene soon after. The house has since been sealed, and forensic experts from Muzaffarpur have been called in to investigate the gruesome incident further.
Jitendra Pandey, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Siwan Sadar, confirmed the details, expressing the sheer horror of the act that took the lives of four innocent children and left a mother and daughter fighting for theirs.
What led to this horrifying act remains under investigation, but for the quiet neighborhood in Siwan, that night will forever remain etched in memory as one of unspeakable tragedy.
