A bizarre incident from the Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh created a stir after students of the Government Medical College’s boys hostel claimed to have heard the sounds of a girl laughing late at night. The incident went viral on social media, sparking rumors of a ghost haunting the hostel premises. The matter took a serious turn when a police team visited the spot and reportedly heard the chilling laughter themselves.
According to reports, the hostel, which accommodates 54 students, had only a handful of students during the summer vacation. These students reported mysterious laughter echoing through the hostel corridors, particularly from the kitchen and dining hall areas. Despite repeated checks, no one was found, and the fear among students escalated to the point where some vacated the hostel.
The situation intensified when a video capturing the strange sound surfaced online. In response, hostel management alerted the police. When the police arrived at the hostel at night, they too confirmed hearing the creepy laughter. The officers even called out into the darkness, but no one responded from the suspected area.
However, upon deeper investigation, the truth behind the “ghost” was uncovered. Mahasamund Medical College Dean Dr. Yasmin Khan confirmed that the incident was a result of mischief carried out using a Bluetooth speaker. A TV and speaker found in one of the rooms were used to play the disturbing audio. The authorities identified and detained the individual responsible.
Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Rao stated that the initial investigation indicates it was a prank. The police have questioned the hostel’s warden, and watchman, and are trying to reach out to the students who left for vacation.
The college management and police have appealed to the public not to spread unfounded rumors and confirmed that no supernatural activity was involved.
This incident, although resolved, highlights how easily misinformation and fear can spread, especially in the age of viral videos.
