
Bengaluru, April 10 – A disturbing incident of sexual harassment that took place in Suddaguntepalya during the early hours of April 3 has prompted city police to launch an intensive investigation, although the identity of the accused remains unknown.
According to police sources, two women, both in the city to seek admission to a private university for their master’s programs, had stepped out of their paying guest (PG) accommodation around 12:50 am to have tea at a nearby stall on Suddaguntepalya Main Road. CCTV footage shows a man lurking near the tea stall as the women arrived. When they left the shop at around 1:52 am, the man began following them.
As the women reached I Cross, Bharathi Layout just half a kilometer from the university the man forcibly assaulted one of them by pushing her against a wall before fleeing the scene. The horrifying act was captured on CCTV, and the footage later surfaced on social media after being shared by a local businessman, Lokesh Gowda, who resides in the area.
Although the victim did not file a formal complaint, the city police have taken suo motu cognizance of the incident and registered a case under sections relating to stalking and sexual harassment. “The video clearly shows the molestation, and we are working to identify and locate the victim so she can file a formal statement,” said one of the investigating officers.
Police Commissioner B Dayananda stated that teams have analyzed footage from hundreds of CCTV cameras in the area. “Night patrolling has been intensified. We are also evaluating the effectiveness of patrol teams using technology and will take further steps as needed,” he said.
The incident has sparked concern over women’s safety in the area, especially during night hours. Residents have called for improved lighting and increased police visibility on interior lanes.
