Badaun, Uttar Pradesh: A shocking case of alleged religious conversion pressure has emerged from Badaun district. Rajkumar (24), a resident of Meera Sarai, has accused his wife Afroz (23) and her family of forcing him to convert to Islam. The couple, who married on August 4, 2023, also has a four-month-old son.
Rajkumar, who works as a chef, claims that after marriage, his in-laws repeatedly pressured him to adopt Islam. He alleges that he was taken to a mosque, forced to offer namaaz, and made to consume meat against his will. When he resisted, Afroz reportedly divorced him. However, they later reconciled and started living together again in 2024.
The situation escalated during Eid this year when Rajkumar visited his in-laws. He was allegedly shocked to see them feeding meat to his infant son. When he objected, he claimed that his wife’s relatives and a Maulana were called, and he was once again pressured to convert. He further alleges that an attempt was made to forcibly circumcise him. Fearing for his safety, Rajkumar managed to escape with his child.
The young man has now approached the police, seeking protection from his wife and in-laws. The police have confirmed receiving his complaint and are investigating the matter.
This incident has sparked discussions on religious freedom and forced conversions, with authorities assuring that legal action will be taken based on the findings.
